Some of the birds around Motebong Lodge

Katse Dam / Lesotho

When you wake to the sound of birds chatting and chirping, we often forget that some of these beautiful birds can be seen in the grounds of the lodge. With winter setting, some of these birds (for example the swallows) will be starting and tens of Kilometres long trip to the northern hemisphere.

The birds below, which are some of the birds that can be seen around Motebong, carry the following Sesotho names: Khauoane, Tsemeli,Letata, Pjempjete, Mamasianoke, Mokhotlo, Talenyane, Mafokotsane, Thaha, seroebele, leholi etc, all to be seen and identified. More birds are to be seen in the mountains and mountain cliffs around, one of the most sought after being the Ntsu, the bearded vulture (Lammegeier).
